Having an NP to issue medications for things like medication renewals, ear infections, UTI’s, fevers, strep etc. so those do not bog down the waiting room and can decrease wait times for more minor issues.

My Father was in Emerg 3 days in Sept and 1 day in Feb before he was given a bed. He has Alzheimer's and can't communicate so we the family took rotations staying with him. Try sleeping in and old plastic chair from the 70s ! and no washroom in the room! Small point but if it's a 3 day wait in emerg think of those trying to support the patient and buy some comfortable chairs which this would be a small cost. The families are making up the gaps in Health Care.

There is a definite need to have more mental health/social work support for those experiencing homelessness, drug issues, mental health issues etc. more should be hired to access those in the emergency department

My wife arrived at emergency in ambulance due to an obviously broken foot, the EMO's said she needed an xray, the triage nurse said she needed an xray but she could not order it. She was a travel nurse and said in BC she would immediately have sent us to xray. Instead we waited 6 hours for a doctor to in 5 seconds tell us she needed an xray and sent us for xray. If we were in BC our wait time would have been zero and we would have immediately gone to xray. Why waste a nurse's skills in triage by have them do nothing but assess and rank the condition of patient? We need to move away from model of physician being the only entry point for treatment. Pharmacists, NPs, nurses and other professionals have expertise being under utilized. Allow them to treat more, saving physicians for those who really need a doctor as well as replacing the practice of patients having to wait 6 hours just to be told what every other health care provider already knew and had the expertise to refer us?
