Feb. 11, 2026: This survey has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate. We truly appreciate your input.

We heard from more than 1,300 New Brunswickers, and we’re excited about the level of engagement from communities across the province.

We are now in the process of reviewing, collating, and analyzing the data. We will share a summary of what we heard in Spring 2026.

The feedback will directly inform our work plans and help guide improvements to address the priorities and concerns you’ve raised. Thank you again for being part of this process.

Primary health care is the first place people go for health services in their community. It provides fair, complete and ongoing care while connecting patients to the health and social services they need. This approach focuses on overall well-being and community health, supporting and empowering people to manage their own health. Services available through primary health care include:

  • Health education
  • Preventable treatment (care that keeps you from getting sick)
  • Treatment and management of chronic diseases and minor illnesses or injuries
  • Referrals to specialists
  • Mental health care
  • Support for addiction
  • Care for pregnant individuals
  • Care for babies and children
  • Palliative care (end-of-life care)

Horizon is establishing Family Health Teams to enhance the delivery of primary health care for New Brunswickers.

This collaborative model has been proven to provide better access and an improved patient experience by bringing together different health care professionals with a variety of competencies, skills and experiences to address the needs of the patients they serve.

Instead of being matched with a single primary care provider (a family doctor or nurse practitioner), New Brunswickers will be matched to a Family Health Team in their community, ensuring they can access the right health care from the right practitioner, at the right time.

Within a Family Health Team, care is centred around the patient with a goal to provide primary care services within five days, either virtually or in person, based on the nature of the health concern.
